EVENT

Annually a formation is tasked to host the SA Army Fittest Soldier Competition. The competition is determined by the event date that will determine the last day accepted to determine the age of each participant. In addition, there is an alternative date whereby all results will be based on a later date than the event date. This is to determine the team for the SANDF Championships. 

The actual competition is divided into the following competitions: 
  • Individual competition (all members partake as individuals).
  • Unit Team competition (the best participant within the respective unit will represent that unit).
  • Formation Team competition (the best participant within the respective formation will represent that formation).
  • Formation HQ Team competition (only members staffed at Formation HQ's)
  • SNR Soldier competition (Genl, OC's and RSM's)

CATEGORIES

The categories represent the different age groupings:

  • Men up to 34.
  • Men 35 - 44.
  • Men 45 - 49.
  • Men 50+
  • Woman up to 29.
  • Woman 30 - 40.
  • Woman 41 - 49.
  • Woman 50+

TEAMS

  • UNIT TEAM (members of the same unit): 
  1. Male up to 34 years
  2. Male between 35 and 44 years 
  3. Male members 45 and older
  4. One female member (any age)
  • FORMATION TEAM (members from the units of the same formation): 
  1. Male up to 34 years 
  2. Male between 35 and 44 years 
  3. Male members 45 and older 
  4. One female member (any age) 
  • FORMATION HQ TEAM (members from the same Formation HQ) 
  1. Male between 35 and 44 years 
  2. Male between 45 and older 
  3. female member (any age) 
SURPRISE
Measurement:  time
Dress: Mil Boots, camou pants, with t-shirt
A running race (+/- 4km) with obstacles and equipment to be carried.  You will be penalized should you not be able to cross an obstacle.  The equipment to be carried is equipment unique to the formation hosting the competition.

SIDEWAYS & BACKWARDS RUNNING
Measurement:  time
Dress:  PT dress
A running race that includes 200m running sideways, then 200m running backward.  The track is a 100m track with lanes for each participant.  You will, therefore, complete the 100m four times.  You will be penalized if you cross your legs while running sideways and should you turn your body during both sideways and backward running.  You must remain within your lane.
Agility-T Test
Measurement:  time
Dress:  PT ress
A rapid running test whereby you must run forward for 10m, touch a cone, 5m sideways to the right, cross a cone, 10m to the left, touch a cone, back to the middle (5m), touch a cone, then backward crossing the starting block.  You have two attempts.  If you fail to touch a cone, you will be disqualified for that round.
Bleep Test
Measurement:  amount
Dress:  PT dress
The official bleep test.  A 20m track that is run within the set bleep times.  You must reach the end of the 20m track before the bleep sounds.  You must remain within your lane.
Pool Crossing
Measurement:  time
Dress: swim gear
You must cross a 25m swimming pool as quick as possible. Members unable to swim may wear a life jacket.
Fun Run
Measurement:  time
Dress:  Mil Boots, camou pants, with t-shirt
An endurance run (+/- 4km) with obstacles and equipment to be carried.  You will be penalized if you are unable to cross an obstacle.  This race is more focused on endurance than strength.
4km Walk
Measurement:  Time
Dress: PT dress
Standard 4km walk as per fitness test.  No long tracksuit pants allowed.  Pants are not allowed to be longer than knee.  Penalities will be awarded against you should you not comply with the basic walking rules (one foot on ground at all times and locking of knee when walking).
2.4km run
Measurement:  Time
Dress:  PT dress
Standard 2.4km run as per fitness test.
Endurance walk/run
Measurement:  Time
Dress: Mil Boots, camou pants, with t-shirt, big bag
This is a running/walking race with big bag that includes a filled sand bag.  Distance is up to 20km on a rought terrain.
Push ups & SIt ups
Measurement:  Time
Dress:  Mil Boots, camou pants, with t-shirt
Standard fitness test rules and regulations.  As many as possible (correctly executed) within 2 minutes.  A PTI will count each incorrect push up/sit up and that will be deducted from your total.
